Resources for Parents & Families

Getting kids and teenagers off screens can be a daily battle. Not all screen time is bad, but we do need to be mindful about kids’ screen time because they’re not able to self-regulate. Here are some resources to help plan time away from screens for the children and the whole family!

Go outside and Play!

  • Good “old fashioned” outdoor playtime: hiking, biking, walking, etc.

  • Tinkergarten® is a national organization with local community chapters that helps make outdoor time learning time. Each class becomes a tight-knit group of children and adults who learn together through well-designed, outdoor play-based activities. Join the movement of thousands of families learning outside together.

Local & National Resources :

  • Red Tricycle: National resource with chapters in most major cities. Find cool ideas for things to do, eat, see and make with your kids.

  • Macaroni Kid: National resource with chapters in most major cities. Provides local activity guides & news for parents & families.

Cooking Time with Kids!

Kids learn so much when learning to cook at home, from learning about foods and ingredients to math. But if you want them to get some professional class time here’s some prominent national kids cooking classes:

  • Sur la table: Professionals teach the skills to your child, and they should come away with between one and three dishes they have learned to make.

  • Williams Sonoma: Also has kid classes called Junior Chef.

Story Time!

We all know how great it is to read to and with our kids. Older kids also can fall in love with a great book.  If you need help finding book suggestions for all ages check out:
